Rent, buy, Blu-ray and streaming status
If you missed it in theaters, here is where to watch The Dog Stars right now. Ridley Scott's thriller, starring Jacob Elordi, opened in theaters on Aug. 28, 2026, and 20th Century Studios released it on digital on Oct. 27. ComingSoon reports it arrived at 12 a.m. Eastern (9 p.m. Pacific on Oct. 26) to rent or buy through Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home. Decider reports the purchase price on Amazon is $24.99, and prices can vary by store.
Physical copies are next. The studio's official film page says The Dog Stars comes out on Blu-ray on Dec. 1. Disney's UK press release lists bonus features including a making-of featurette and deleted scenes, and notes that extras may vary by product and retailer.
What about streaming with a subscription? 20th Century Studios is owned by Disney, but Disney's own Disney+ guide says a streaming release date has not been announced. Decider also says no Hulu date has been set. Until one is announced, digital rental, digital purchase or the Blu-ray are the only ways to watch at home.
The movie itself is based on Peter Heller's bestselling novel, with a screenplay by Mark L. Smith. Elordi plays Hig, a young pilot who has built an isolated homestead with a military survivalist named Bangley (Josh Brolin) after a global collapse. A mysterious radio transmission pulls Hig out into the unknown. Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong and Allison Janney round out the cast. The film is rated R and runs 1 hour 58 minutes, according to the studio.
One note for families: Disney's guide describes it as intended for adult audiences because of the R rating, and the UK release carries a warning about flashing-light sequences.
