Steven Spielberg's Net Worth Hits $7.9 Billion: Where It Comes From

Forbes now puts the director's fortune at $7.9 billion, up from $7.1 billion in March. Here is where the money comes from: his movies, a cut of Universal Orlando tickets and the DreamWorks studio he cofounded.

Steven Spielberg's net worth is $7.9 billion, according to Forbes' real-time profile, which Forbes last updated on Sept. 15, 2026, and still showed on Nov. 2. That is up from $7.1 billion on Forbes' 2026 celebrity billionaires ranking, which used net worths as of March 1. On that list Spielberg was No. 1 of 22 celebrity billionaires, ahead of George Lucas at $5.2 billion and James Cameron at $1.1 billion, making him the richest director Forbes ranked. As of Nov. 2, the live profile also placed him No. 492 among the world's richest people.

Spielberg net worth 2026: what Forbes says

The foundation is the movies. Forbes says the films of the three-time Academy Award winner have grossed more than $10 billion worldwide, and calls him the highest-grossing film director of all time. By Forbes' count, Cameron is second with almost $9 billion. Forbes lists Spielberg's source of wealth as “Movies, Self Made” and notes that he started as an unpaid intern in Universal's editing department. One more detail from his Forbes profile: he did not take a salary for Schindler's List in 1993.

The Steven Spielberg Universal theme park connection is the most unusual part of the fortune. Forbes reports that a slice of the cash from every ticket at Universal Orlando theme parks goes directly to him, thanks to his work as a consultant when the first park opened in 1990. Forbes' March ranking describes it as a slice of every ticket sold at Universal theme parks, tied to hits like Jaws, Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones. Neither Forbes page gives the size of that slice.

He is also a studio founder. In 1994 Spielberg cofounded DreamWorks studios with Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, according to Forbes, which calls him “the DreamWorks studios cofounder” on its 2026 list.

He is still making movies, too. His sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day, starring Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor, opened at No. 1 at the domestic box office in June with $44 million, Variety reported. Box Office Mojo now lists the film at $247.2 million worldwide, and Variety reported it would start streaming on Peacock on Oct. 9.

One caution for readers: these are Forbes estimates, not figures Spielberg has published. The real-time number can also move from day to day, because Forbes says it reflects changes since 5 p.m. ET on the prior trading day. Still, the pattern is clear: decades of blockbusters, a cut of theme park tickets and a studio he helped build have made Spielberg one of the richest entertainers in the world.
